4. a place that hurts

Neither chemotherapy nor surgery hurt this much. And it wasn't that the radiation procedure hurt, just its aftermath. Two months of wearing "target lines" in magic marker. Two months of lying in my "pose" for my "close-ups." They warned me that the radiation would eventually burn my skin. I got to the point that I couldn't stand anything against my tender, blistered, red, peeling skin. And yet I went back for more. How could I not?
