Within a short period of time, my husband was diagnosed with a brain tumor and I had double mastectomies for breast cancer. I made this piece by casting blocks of sugar and "firing" them in the oven. It signifies the sweetness of our relationship, our trial by fire, and my prayer that we will survive these difficulties and grow old together.
